Measuring instruments is the means by which magnitudes are measured. There is a great variety of instruments that are used to conduct measurements; some of them are used for direct measurement and others for indirect measurement.

The course will introduce measurement instruments like the caliper, the micrometer, the dial indicator, the block gauge, and the goniometer. These instruments are largely used in workshops and laboratories to measure diameters, lengths, angles, etc. with better resolution than a ruler.

Learning outcomes

At the end of this course, students will be able to:

Identify the different types of mechanical instruments.
Recognise parts of mechanical instruments.
Interpret the types of measurements that can be made with different mechanical instruments.
Measure with mechanical instruments.

Let’s start taking a look at mechanical measurements!

The 3D models will help you to see the different parts of a caliper and micrometers.

Estimated Time: 2.00 hours
